So, starting on Monday we will begin adding in some copy work as well as some memory work - the verses that they will be copying out will also be the ones that they are memorizing. One verse per week. When I mentioned this to them, their biggest worry was that they would be l-o-n-g verses that I wanted them to write out, lol .... I assured them that the first one would be a very, very easy one for them to memorize - it's one that we actually sing in Church sometimes.
Philippians 4:4 (KJV)
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
At the beginning of my Bible I have some pages that are labeled:
- Where To Find Help When:
- Life's Problems From The Teachings of Jesus Christ:
- Christian Virtues and Character:
- Suggested Readings
Each week that we start a new verse (which will be on Monday's), I'll post what it is so that you can do this with your kids (or for yourself) if you so choose.
As a side note: I have a friend that likes to know the meaning of some words (I guess it is kind of rubbing off on me, lol) ..... I have read this verse over and over and I kept wondering "what exactly does 'Rejoice' mean". So, I looked it up and this is what I found ....
Rejoice: feel or show great joy or delight
Then I was wondering what exactly 'delight' and 'joy' meant and this is what I found ....
Delight: please greatly or take great pleasure in
Joy: a feeling of great pleasure and happiness
Pleasure: a feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment
So, judging from those definitions, it's a good thing to be in the Lord ..... I think the Message says it best:
Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him!
Oops... I didn't realize needing to know word meanings was contagious. LOL! But it is fun after you get sucked into it. :o)
ReplyDeleteI would like to get one of those dictionaries that gives origins of words and their meanings. Maybe that is what I should use my Chapters gift card on?
lol, it's a lot like going on bunny trails when looking things up on the Internet, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe dictionary I have on my computer (the dashboard) shows the origin of the words - it's kind of neat seeing where they came from. Good plan for you Chapters card. ˚Ü˚
