The Plan For Next Week

Today, the kids and I had a discussion about their Bible 'class' that we have first thing in the morning (of our school days) - currently we have been reading through different books of the Bible .... this has been something that I have wanted them to do for quite sometime, but they have never really gotten into it.  Charlotte has recently informed me that the Bible is actually quite an interesting book .... who knew, lol.

So, starting on Monday we will begin adding in some copy work as well as some memory work - the verses that they will be copying out will also be the ones that they are memorizing.  One verse per week.  When I mentioned this to them, their biggest worry was that they would be l-o-n-g verses that I wanted them to write out, lol .... I assured them that the first one would be a very, very easy one for them to memorize - it's one that we actually sing in Church sometimes.

Philippians 4:4 (KJV)
Rejoice in the Lord alway:  and again I say, Rejoice.

At the beginning of my Bible I have some pages that are labeled:
  • Where To Find Help When:
  • Life's Problems From The Teachings of Jesus Christ:
  • Christian Virtues and Character:
  • Suggested Readings
We are taking the verses that are listed in the "Christian Virtues and Character" to use for our copy and memory work.  We'll do one a week, since there are 29 verses listed, we'll be doing this for the next 29 weeks.  I'm actually really looking forward to doing this - when we attended Church in the town we used to live in, we memorized verses (through Sunday School - they even had adult Sunday School) and I remember really enjoying doing it.

Each week that we start a new verse (which will be on Monday's), I'll post what it is so that you can do this with your kids (or for yourself) if you so choose.

As a side note:  I have a friend that likes to know the meaning of some words (I guess it is kind of rubbing off on me, lol) ..... I have read this verse over and over and I kept wondering "what exactly does 'Rejoice' mean".  So, I looked it up and this is what I found ....
Rejoice:  feel or show great joy or delight
Then I was wondering what exactly 'delight' and 'joy' meant and this is what I found ....
Delight:  please greatly or take great pleasure in
Joy:  a feeling of great pleasure and happiness
Pleasure:  a feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment

So, judging from those definitions, it's a good thing to be in the Lord ..... I think the Message says it best:

Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him!

  1. Oops... I didn't realize needing to know word meanings was contagious. LOL! But it is fun after you get sucked into it. :o)

I would like to get one of those dictionaries that gives origins of words and their meanings. Maybe that is what I should use my Chapters gift card on?

  2. lol, it's a lot like going on bunny trails when looking things up on the Internet, lol.

The dictionary I have on my computer (the dashboard) shows the origin of the words - it's kind of neat seeing where they came from. Good plan for you Chapters card. ˚Ü˚
